The Modi Law Firm's senior associate attorney, Patrick Pettibon, was recently interviewed by the Houston Chronicle regarding ongoing delays in the scheduling of immigrant visa interviews. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the being scheduled for an interview, which is generally the final step for individuals seeking an immigrant visa, often only took a few weeks once a case was deemed to be documentarily qualified by the National Visa Center.
However, despite the resumption of routine services at U.S. embassy and consulate offices, delays in the scheduling of immigrant visa interviews persist in many locations. The Houston Chronicle notes that "even after the pandemic emergency lifted and U.S. embassies reopened, allowing for consular interviews to resume - the backlog at the Islamabad Embassy continued to grow." The unprecedented delays have prompted some U.S. citizen spouses of immigrant visa applications to sue the Department of State in federal court.
