Susham Modi, a Houston immigration lawyer, participated in the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) stakeholder meeting that took place at the University of Houston Law Center on October 21, 2014.
The EOIR is the U.S. Department of Justice branch that adjudicates immigration matters. Those in attendance included: EOIR Director, EOIR Deputy Director, several immigration judges and several Houston pro bono attorneys and organizations. The stakeholder meeting gave the attorneys a chance to bring up concerns about the immigration adjudication system to representatives from the EOIR.
A wide range of immigration topics were discussed at the meeting, including court procedures regarding special immigrant juvenile cases and asylum cases, bond amounts, notice of court hearings and conditions of detention facilities.
